- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a deep dish pie plate or a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Toss everything together until the apples are evenly coated.
- Transfer the apple mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out into an even layer.
- In another mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the topping. Stir until well combined.
- Pour the melted butter over the oat mixture and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Serve the deep dish apple crisp warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
